Abel R. Garcia has been an entrepreneur in several fields for past 30 years. He received a degree in Business from South Texas Junior College (now the University of Houston Downtown) in 1970. Shortly thereafter, He went to work in the fast food business with a Statewide Dairy Queen Company. Starting as a manager, he quickly was promoted to District Manager and later to Division Manager of 24 DQ Stores in Houston.

In 1978 Garcia bought 7 Dairy Queens and became the first Hispanic franchisee in Texas. He remained in DQ business until 1994. Meanwhile, Garcia served as President of the Houston Dairy Queen’s 100 store Advertising Association from ’78 to ’81.

After 1991 he added several other businesses to his DQ Company:

  • Texas Electronic Games Inc. ’81-‘85
  • Los Pollos Mexican Restaurant ’84-‘90
  • (3) Garcia’s Mexican Restaurants ‘90-‘95

Garcia entered the executive search business in Houston in ’96 with a start-up search firm. He served as Director of Operations from ’97 to ’99 and played a significant role in growing the search firm to 7 offices nationwide, during that time.
In year 2000, Garcia formed the executive search firms of Abel Fuller & Zedler LLC and Execufirm, Inc. The search firms specialize in placing senior level executives in various industries.

In ’01 and ’02, Abel Fuller & Zedler, was named “A Top 25” Executive Search Firm by the “Houston Business Journal”. In the last ten years, Abel has been involved in over 100 executive placements, ranging from CEO’s to Manager/Directors. Execufirm, Inc. became a career development company.

For the last seven years Garcia has worked in developing the new and creative Execufirm Marketing Portfolio (EMP), which builds a customized and personal brand for its candidates. This process blends executive search with advertising and marketing. This presentation, allows any person to create a customized advertising portfolio that is the only one of its kind in the employment field.
